Job summary

Pediatric Hospitalist position in Mattoon, Illinois welcomes a clinician to join an established, physician-led inpatient service. The role features a ~5-on / 10-off block schedule, comprehensive coverage of pediatric inpatients and newborns, and support for Level II neonatology services within a collaborative community setting.

The position requires completion of an ACGME-accredited Pediatrics residency, board certification or eligibility in General Pediatrics or Pediatric Hospital Medicine, and

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited US medical school or international equivalent (MD or DO)
• ACGME-accredited Pediatrics residency; Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Pediatrics or Pediatric Hospital Medicine
• Active, unrestricted Illinois medical license (or eligible for state licensure prior to start)
• NRP certification; DEA registration, CSR, and PALS
• Strong clinical comfort level with neonatology and Level II nursery protocols
• Available for a January 2027 start date

Responsibilities

• Provide direct inpatient medical management for pediatric admissions, nursery care, and Level II neonatology patients
• Conduct routine newborn examinations and manage infants requiring neonatology support
• Attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitations as required by hospital and clinical protocols
• Provide pediatric consultations for the Emergency Department and surgical service lines
• Stabilize acute or critically ill pediatric and neonatal patients, coordinating transfers to tertiary pediatric medical centers when appropriate
• Perform daily inpatient rounds, manage admissions and discharges, and ensure clear handoffs to outpatient primary care pediatricians
• Maintain accurate electronic health record documentation and participate in clinical quality and safety initiatives
