Job summary

Interim HealthCare in Sioux Falls seeks a compassionate pediatric home care registered nurse to provide specialized in-home care for a 13-year-old boy with Nemaline Myopathy and Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. The nurse will work with ventilator care, GJ tube feedings, and assistive communication devices to ensure comfort and safety.

This role requires an RN license in SD, at least one year of pediatric experience, and CPR certification.

Qualifications

• At least one year of pediatric nursing experience.
• Active RN license in South Dakota.
• Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator care.
• Familiarity with GJ tube feedings and medication administration.
• Experience with pediatric respiratory care, including nebulizers and cough assist equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a non-speaking patient using assistive technology.
• Current CPR certification required; on-site CPR certification available for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

• Monitor ventilator function and pulse oximeter readings throughout the shift.
• Perform tracheostomy suctioning as needed.
• Provide routine tracheostomy care and cleaning.
• Administer GJ tube feedings and medications as prescribed.
• Operate cough assist equipment to manage respiratory secretions.
• Administer respiratory treatments, including nebulizers and inhalers.
• Assist with hygiene routines and repositioning as applicable to shift.
• Monitor patient condition and respond to changes.
• Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and safety throughout shift.
• Communicate respectfully using assistive communication technology.

About the Patient

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced pediatric nurse to provide specialized in-home care for a 13-year-old boy living with Nemaline Myopathy, a condition that causes muscle weakness, and Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, which affects joint flexibility and positioning.

The patient is ventilator-dependent via a tracheotomy and receives all nutrition and medications through a GJ tube. He uses an eye-gaze communication device and a wheelchair for mobility. Due to severe osteoporosis and joint contractures, all care must be provided with an exceptionally gentle, attentive, and safety-focused approach.

Job Responsibilities

As a pediatric home care nurse, responsibilities may include:

• Monitoring ventilator function and pulse oximeter readings throughout the shift
• Performing tracheostomy suctioning as needed
• Providing routine tracheostomy care and cleaning
• Administering GJ tube feedings and medications as prescribedOperating cough assist equipment to help manage respiratory secretions
• Administering respiratory treatments, including nebulizers and inhalers
• Assisting with hygiene routines, including showering, as applicable to the assigned shift
• Providing repositioning and incontinence care as needed
• Monitoring the patient's condition and responding appropriately to changes
• Maintaining the patient's comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the shift
• Communicating respectfully and effectively using the patient's assistive communication technology

Qualifications

• At least one year of pediatric nursing experience
• Active Registered Nurse (RN in South Dakota, as applicable to the position
• Required experience with tracheostomy and ventilator care
• Familiarity with GJ tube feedings and medication administration
• Experience with pediatric respiratory care, including nebulizers and cough assist equipment
• Ability to provide gentle, attentive care to a patient with complex medical and physical needs
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a non-speaking individual using assistive technology
• Current CPR certification required; on-site CPR certification is available for qualified candidates
