Job summary

Boston Medical Center seeks a Registered Dietitian for the Grow Clinic, an outpatient pediatrics program focusing on Failure to Thrive. You will work with a Pediatrician and Social Worker to assess nutritional needs, plan diet therapies, and guide families on formula preparation and diet adherence.

The role includes follow-ups, education delivery, and collaboration with therapists, social workers, and nursing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or related discipline.
• Registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
• Two to three years of related experience.
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritional care to patients seen in outpatient specialty clinics with organic and non-organic failure-to-thrive conditions; interviews patients to obtain information regarding food habits for guidance in planning diet; assesses nutritional status based on laboratory values, medical and nutritional history and medical/surgical condition; develops nutritional care plans based on this information in accordance with accepted AND standards of practice and written department protocols.
• Instructs primary care takers on the preparation of formula; documents diet therapy using the ADIME format; develops and plans individual diet including necessary supplements and tube feedings; maintains record of all patients seen and recommended therapeutic action.
• Monitors patients to determine changes in nutritional status; recommends supplements and/or tube feedings; monitors tube feedings for tolerance and assists physician in determining increases in rate and strength as appropriate.
• Conducts follow-up with patients between clinic visits via phone, emails, and home visits; coordinates with caretakers, families, and providers; assists with referrals to outpatient OT or SLP for feeding therapy as needed.
• Provides in-service education in nutrition to hospital personnel; compiles and develops educational materials for use in classes.
• Attends Grand Rounds and Pediatric conferences; participates in professional meetings to share information when appropriate.
• Acts as preceptor in education/training of students ADA AP-4 and from local universities and hospital; supervises practicum.
• Performs all functions of an Assistant Dietitian; follows hospital Core Values and safety procedures; adheres to RESPECT Behavioral Standards.
