Job summary

Brown University Health’s Bradley Hospital unit seeks a patient-focused Nutrition Aide to support Registered Dietitians. You will collect diet information, monitor menus, adjust meals for allergies and prescribed diets, and educate patients and families about nutrition and meal planning.

Daily tasks include completing calorie counts, updating meal rounds, coordinating with the clinical team, and maintaining the CBORD/LifeChart systems.

Qualifications

• Completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university and ACEND Didactic Program in Dietetics.
• All ACEND required nutrition classes in a 4-year ACEND Didactic Program with advanced culinary internship (pending) and anticipated degree completion within 6 months.
• Thorough understanding of nutrition principles and their application to physiology and disease states.
• Strong oral and written communication to collaborate with patients, families and hospital staff.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use CBORD, LifeChart and other software databases (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; iRounds).
• Demonstrate knowledge to care for pediatric patients with psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and diverse cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Carry out duties compassionately for pediatric patients admitted for psychiatric diagnoses and/or autism.
• Communicate with Clinical Dietitians, nursing, and food service teams to ensure coordinated care.
• Update allergen and specialty diet lists daily and inform kitchen staff of changes.
• Indicate allergy trays with red stickers and verify correct meals are delivered.
• Review specialty trays and communicate important diet information to unit staff.
• Develop and update menus for special diets to ensure nutritional balance.
• Prints menus, tray tickets, and reports; update meal selections during shifts.
• Monitor patient intake and document findings in the electronic health record.
