Pediatric Critical Care Transport EMT Basic

The Pediatric Critical Care Transport EMT-B will assist in the transport of ill and injured children. The EMT is responsible for the safe operation of the unit and performs age-appropriate patient care activities during transport. The Transport EMT works in a team environment and reports to the Transport Nurse or Physician.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certified EMT in Texas.
- CPR certification.
- PALS and ACLS strongly recommended.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions in English.
- Previous emergency care experience preferred.
- Valid Texas driver's license and insurability.
Physical Requirements
- Lift, carry, and push up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance).
- Climb 20 stairs in 60 seconds.
- Perform clinical skills requiring manual dexterity (e.g., starting IVs, intubating).
- Correctable vision adequate for reading signs and small print.
Psychological Requirements
- Remain calm and exercise good judgment in high-stress situations.
- Maintain a positive attitude despite adversity.
- Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Work under physically and psychologically taxing conditions, including extreme weather and high-stress environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls 24/7, operate emergency vehicles safely in all conditions.
- Follow maps and directions efficiently and safely.
- Adhere to all driving laws and departmental policies.
- Use communication equipment appropriately and communicate effectively with dispatchers, EMS crews, and other organizations.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in readiness and cleanliness.
- Complete checklists and assist with vehicle decontamination and resupply.
- Report discrepancies immediately.
- Provide patient care per protocols authorized by the Medical Director.
- Demonstrate clinical competency and physical ability to transport patients.
- Interact professionally with outside agencies and provide excellent customer service.
- Complete all documentation accurately and timely.
- Work under demanding conditions with exposure to hazards, blood-borne pathogens, and chemicals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including housekeeping and special projects.
- Pass departmental skills evaluation and complete NEOP process before staffing.
- Follow policies and procedures at all times.
