Hernando County is seeking a Firefighter EMT responsible for emergency response, medical care, and fire safety. Candidates must have a high school diploma, EMT certification, and relevant experience. This role involves operating firefighting equipment, maintaining fire stations, and ensuring compliance with medical protocols in challenging environments.
The Firefighter EMT is responsible for preventing and extinguishing fires, providing care, treatment, and transportation for medical emergencies in the pre-hospital setting, and delivering emergency medical care up to the basic life support level as approved by the Hernando County Common Medical Protocols. Responsibilities include:
Emergency Response: County employees must report to work during emergencies and may be called back around the clock for emergency operations.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED; two years of experience with a fire department or recent Firefighter I, II, and EMT training.
Special Requirements: Clean police record, CJIS clearance, vaccines as required, and compliance with Florida EMS regulations.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Florida driver’s license, EMT license, BLS Provider, EVOC, and Firefighter II certification.
Competencies include: Knowledge of firefighting principles, rescue operations, medical protocols, decision-making, communication, and physical endurance.
Equipment Used: Medical, communication, rescue, firefighting equipment, and PPE.
Physical Abilities: Pass physical and agility tests, maintain NFPA standards, and participate in ongoing physical training.
Environmental Conditions: Ability to work in smoke, heat, hazardous environments, and respond to crises requiring critical decisions.
