Job summary

Southernmed is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to support pediatric providers in delivering high-quality patient care. You will greet patients, document vitals, assist during exams, prepare supplies, and help with specimens and basic lab tasks in a fast-paced clinic.

Ideal candidates have experience in pediatric settings and familiarity with electronic medical records, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team to coordinate patient flow

Qualifications

• Experience in a pediatric medical practice preferred.
• Working knowledge of computer applications; prior experience with electronic medical records preferred.
• Ability to speak, read and write effectively.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines, in a detail-oriented manner.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms and document vitals in the chart.
• Instruct patients about medications and diets.
• Explain treatment procedures to patients.
• Prepare patients for examination.
• Assist the provider during patient exams.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
• Perform basic laboratory tests.
• Maintain exam rooms and sterilization as required.
• Prepare and administer medications as directed.
• Perform blood collection following OSHA standards.
• Remove sutures and change dressings.
• Maintain logs and required checks.
• Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff.
