Job summary

Children's of Alabama's Blood Bank at Main Campus seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform laboratory tests on body fluids using standard procedures and instruments to aid diagnosis, monitoring, and prevention of disease.

The position requires MLS certification within 18 months of hire; schedule is Day Shift, M-F with every 4th weekend, 05:00–13:30, and transfusion testing experience is preferred for pediatric care teams.

Qualifications

• MLS certification within 18 months of hire; existing employees grandfathered if hired before Jan 1, 2020.
• Registry with a national board of registry as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent) or Scientist in Blood Banking or registry eligible. Certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
• Equivalent qualifications include Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist or AMT certification; Scientist in Blood Banking.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on body fluids using standard procedures and instruments.
• Support transfusion services with accurate serologic testing and hemolytic antibody identification as part of Blood Bank responsibilities.

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory technology

Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science
