Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health's Main Hospital in New Brunswick is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical-Surgical IV Oncology unit. Per diem Night shift, 36 hours per week, with a competitive hourly pay range in New Jersey.

Active NJ RN license and BLS required. Bachelor's in Nursing preferred or to be completed within 5 years. ACLS/National Board Certification preferred; Epic EMR experience a plus; strong teamwork and patient-centered care required.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing and American Heart Association BLS Certification are required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing strongly preferred or must be completed within 5 years of hire.
• National Board Certification and ACLS Certification are preferred or must be obtained within 6 months.
• 1 year of acute care RN experience required; 2–3 years preferred; EPIC EMR experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and recognize clinical changes, intervening early.
• Administer safe, evidence-based medications and hands-on care.
• Collaborate with physicians and advanced providers to coordinate care.
• Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families.
• Document accurately in the EMR (EPIC) to promote continuity and safety.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds to support communication and transitions of care.

As a Registered Nurse within the Medical Surgical IV (Medical Oncology) at RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick, you will help advance patient care and strengthen the experience of individuals and families across our organization. Medical Surgical IV is an 31 bed Oncology Unit for non-oncological cases. All 31 beds are private rooms. In this unit, you will see a variety of med-surg and intermediate care cases.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS Certification with at least 1 year of acute care RN experience required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is strongly preferred or must be completed within 5 years upon hire. National Board Certification and ACLS Certification is preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Prior 2-3 years of RN experience within acute care is highly preferred and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a Per Diem Night Shift schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday - Friday with weekend and holiday rotations, 36 hours per week, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
