PD Pharmacy Technician (Req #: 0000255867) – Per Diem

Location: Jersey City Medical Center, 355 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302

Pay: $28.98 per hour

Status: Hourly

Shift: Day

Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing all medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient age groups (including geriatrics and adults).

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
• Previous hospital central experience is desirable (Preferred)
• Associates degree preferred (Preferred)
• Prior pharmacy experience preferred (Preferred)
• Prior experience with dispensing in an institutional environment preferred (Preferred)

Certifications and Licenses Required

• State of New Jersey Pharmacy Technician, CPhT preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Scheduling Requirements

• Flexible schedule
• Coverage for day, evening, and weekend shifts

Essential Functions

• Assists in care and maintenance of departmental premises and equipment
• Communicates all discrepancies and information requested to a Registered Pharmacist
• Displays self initiative in anticipating and resolving daily work issues
• Files departmental records as appropriate
• Performs dosage calculations and labels appropriately
• Displays competency in maintaining, filing, troubleshooting, and running reports in Pyxis
• Under the direction of the Pharmacist, prepares medication for dispensing; maintains unit dose system; delivers drug orders; and maintains and demonstrates awareness of limitations of technicians
• Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating work schedules on short notice
• Willingness to work with attention to detail knowing that errors may have serious consequences.
