Job summary

Guthrie is seeking a Patient Care Partner for per diem shifts to support Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in direct patient care. You’ll assist with daily activities, monitor conditions, and promote safety and comfort across patients of all ages.

The role emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered service, teamwork, and adherence to hospital policies. Flexible scheduling and ongoing training are provided to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA training program completion or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience as a Nurse Aide or equivalent patient care role (preferred).
• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with Fundamentals of Nursing course.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and oral hygiene.
• Assist patients with mobility, transfers, ambulation, positioning, and ROM exercises using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
• Record and report vital signs, heights, weights, intake/output, and ADLs.
• Collect specimens and educate patients on collection techniques.
• Perform delegated clinical duties such as EKGs, simple dressings, preps, spirometry support, catheter removal, IV removal, and postmortem care as appropriate.
• Provide one-to-one observation for patients requiring continuous monitoring.
• Respond to call lights and participate in hourly rounding to ensure safety and satisfaction.

Position Summary

The Patient Care Partner provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role supports patients’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs by assisting with daily care activities, monitoring patient conditions, promoting safety, and ensuring a positive patient experience.

Schedule

Per Diem (PD)

• Flexible scheduling based on department needs
• Weekend, holiday, and variable shift availability may be required

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and oral hygiene.
• Assist patients with mobility, transfers, ambulation, positioning, and range of motion exercises using Safe Patient Handling equipment and established mobility protocols.
• Obtain, document, and report vital signs, heights, weights, intake/output, bowel movements, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens while educating patients on proper collection techniques.
• Perform delegated clinical duties including EKGs, simple dressing changes, surgical preps, incentive spirometry supervision, Foley catheter removal, peripheral IV catheter removal, cleansing enemas, and postmortem care, as appropriate.
• Provide one-to-one observation for patients requiring continuous monitoring due to confusion, behavioral concerns, or suicide precautions.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and participate in hourly rounding to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
• Transport patients, equipment, and blood products safely throughout the facility.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment, including equipment management and patient belongings.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the nursing team.
• Support patient safety initiatives, quality improvement activities, and departmental performance goals.
• Demonstrate professional, compassionate communication with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Assist with orienting new staff members and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Maintain CPR certification and comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

One of the following is required:

• Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program; or
• Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Nurse Aide or equivalent patient care role; or
• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with successful completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course.

• Frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards.
• Ability to work in environments involving body odors, bodily fluids, and emotionally challenging patient situations.

Work Environment

This position involves direct patient care in a hospital setting and requires frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The role demands sound judgment, compassion, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations while delivering exceptional patient care.
