Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV, is seeking a patient care assistant to support licensed nursing staff by providing direct and indirect patient care. You will assist with admission processes, monitor vitals, and help maintain a safe, clean environment while communicating with the RN about patient needs.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma, will obtain BLS within 30 days of hire, and may have prior patient care experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient concerns to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assist the Registered Nurse with admissions, transfers, discharges and general patient care duties.
• Record vital signs, assist in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures.
• Record oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
• Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment to help prevent infections and ensure safety of patients, visitors and staff.
• Report equipment repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
• Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures per protocol.
• Communicate nutrition issues to the RN and clarify diet changes.
• Assist department with administrative tasks and support department operations.
• Answer patient call bell and relay messages to appropriate personnel.

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:****EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:**1.
