Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center in Berkeley, CA seeks a patient care teammate to support licensed staff. You will assist with admissions, chart vitals, hygiene, and comfort measures, while maintaining a safe environment and assisting with administrative tasks.

Prior patient care experience and a High School diploma are required; Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire. This is a day shift, 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures; records intake and outputs.
  • Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent and control infections and ensure safety of patients, visitors and staff.
  • Reports necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicates with RN regarding nutrition issues such as poor appetite or diet changes.
  • Assists department with administrative tasks and answers patient call bells.

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:



  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.


  2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

  1. Prior patient care experience.

  5. Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.


  6. Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.


  7. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.


  8. Communicates with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.


  9. Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.


  10. Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel



For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:



  1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
