Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia, seeks a compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant to support bedside care under supervision of licensed nurses. You will assist with admissions, routines, vital signs, and routine patient comfort while maintaining a clean, safe environment.

The role requires a HS diploma, BLS within 30 days, and CNAs with state certification. Prior patient care experience is preferred, and the shift is night, non-exempt, with shared responsibilities

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must meet one of the listed CNA/Nurse Aide certifications.
  • State CNA certification where services are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient concerns to a registered nurse immediately.
  • Assists RN with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Records vital signs and assists with hygiene and patient comfort.
  • Assists in specimen collection and related activities.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
  • Reports equipment repairs in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicates nutrition issues to RN and supports diet changes.
  • Assists department with administrative tasks to support operations.
  • Answers patient call bell and relays messages.

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

  2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

  3. Must meet one of the following:

  • Nationally certified patient care technician

  • Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification issued by state where services are provided:

OH – Nurse Aide through Ohio Nurses Aide Registry

WV – Nurse Aide through WV DHHR/OHFLAC

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Prior patient care experience.

  1. Observes and reports all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.

  2. Assists the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.

  3. Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).

  4. Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.

  5. Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.

  6. Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.

  7. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.

  8. Communicates with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.

  9. Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.

  10. Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.

  1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
