Job summary

The University of Missouri-Columbia's Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (VMDL) seeks a Clinical Lab Specialist I to join the Molecular Diagnostic Section (PCR). The position conducts RNA/DNA extractions, real-time and conventional PCR, and quality control to support diagnostic testing across animal health.

Hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional Saturdays; a high school diploma and at least two years' experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least two years' relevant experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Biology or related lab sciences; 6 months to 1 year of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Record, process, and perform RNA and DNA extractions on veterinary specimens using standard protocols and PCR.
• Analyze test performance and maintain quality control of all assays.
• Enter test results into the clinical LIS and maintain records of performed tests.
• Complete assigned projects timely and maintain diagnostic turnaround times.
• Communicate with diagnostic laboratory clients as needed.
• Set up, operate and/or supervise maintenance of standard or specialized lab equipment.
• Adhere to SOPs and participate in QA/QC activities.
• Follow instructions and work as a team player.
