Job Description

This position will require applicants to work all duties associated with cleanliness and upkeep of the PCMS building including but not limited to: bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, gymnasiums, and areas around the school. Applicants must be able to work independently and as a team member with other custodial staff. Applicants must also work with cleaning chemicals and participte in trainings on how to properly use said chemicals. The hours ar 2pm-10:30pm which includes a one half hour lunch. Primary duties will include cleaning of one or more floors of the building including stairwells, bathrooms, hallways, and classrooms and any other duties needed during the time frame. Set up and tear down of sports activities may also be required as well. All applicants must pass and complete the pre-employment requirements set by the district before they can be allowed to work. Summer hours and large holiday working hours will be adjusted so the team of custodians can deep clean areas of need.

Functions and Responsibilities

Basic

Specific Responsibilities

• Operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of building and premises (including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas) at all times.
• Ensure that classrooms, student gathering areas, and office areas are cleaned daily according to district specifications.
• Ensure that corridors and restrooms are cleaned daily according to district specifications.
• Maintain all floor surfaces according to district specifications.
• Maintain grounds around the building.
• Open and close building on school days.
• Raise the United States and the Kansas flags before school commences and take them down after school closing.
• Check emergency lights and fire extinguishers, fills in the date and initials the tag.
• Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Ensure that all doors and windows are secured and all lights are turned off (except as necessary for safety reasons) at the close of each school day.
• Report immediately to the Principal any unauthorized persons in the building.
• Report immediately damaged school property to the Principal and the Maintenance Director.
• Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required.
• Maintain mechanical equipment as directed.
• Make minor building repairs, and promptly report major repair needs to the Director of Maintenance.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

• Must be able to pass Physical Capacity Test with required score for this position.
• Level 4 – Heavy Work
  • Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly.
• Extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
• Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
