American University in Washington, DC is seeking student staff to join the Project on Civic Dialogue. This role supports event planning, communications and marketing, dialogue facilitation, research, and program design, with a focus on engaging undergraduates and the AU community.

Open to undergraduate or graduate students in good standing, the position is part-time (10 hours per week) and non-exempt, with compensation of $18.40 per hour and eligibility for Federal Work Study where applicable.

Job Description

Summary: Support the Project on Civic Dialogue’s programming including through event planning, communications and marketing, dialogue facilitation, research, and program design.


Essential Functions


  • Learn and share principles of civic and academic dialogue.

  • Plan events for undergraduates, prospective students, and AU community that integrate dialogue across differences, civic engagement, depolarized communication, collaborative learning, academic freedom, and freedom of expression.

  • Promote PCD programming and curricular offerings.

  • Support Faculty Director and Staff Coordinator in developing and implementing curricular and cocurricular offerings that integrate dialogue into SPA and AU.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Part-time.


10 hours per week.


Salary Range

$18.40 per hour.


Required Education and Experience

Open to undergraduate or graduate students at American University.


Students in good academic standing at American University.


Demonstrated interest in civic dialogue.

PCD welcomes students with varied experiences. No prior work experience is necessary, but we encourage interested students to reflect upon the role that dialogue has played in prior jobs and to share this insight with their peers.
