Westak Circuits in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to act as the bridge between customer design teams and Westak’s manufacturing design groups. Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer designs for manufacturability and impedance; coordinate reviews as needed.
  • Reduce design cycle time by resolving problems between pre-engineering and the customer.
  • Assist pre-production with creating/managing controlled impedance stack-ups.
  • Build relationships with customers to enhance technical communications and revenue.
  • Travel to customer sites to support issues and key programs as required.
  • Produce and present technical capability demonstrations with the sales team.
  • Provide the factory with insight into future customer needs and tech requirements.

Job Title: Field Applications Engineer (FAE)
Reports To: EVP of Operations
Position Type: Full-Time Exempt, On-Site
Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year DOE
JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to work on-site at our Sunnyvale facility. The FAE serves as the vital link between the customer’s design team and Westak’s internal manufacturing design teams. As the FAE, you will ensure that printed circuit board (PCB) designs can be built efficiently without sacrificing quality or performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Educate customers on Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Value (DFV) in order to improve the quality and completeness of design packages coming from the customer
  • Work with customers/designers on technical assessments, productizing concepts and validation.
  • Analyze customer designs for manufacturability, controlled impedance, and specification improvements including coordination of formal project reviews when necessary to ensure successful outcome.
  • Reduce customers’ design cycle time by facilitating/eliminating problem disposition between pre- engineering and the customer
  • Assist pre-production in creating/managing controlled impedance stack-ups.
  • Establish relationships with customers to drive improved lines of technical communications and increased depth of relationships.
  • Work closely with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to drive product development and establish relationships with customers to drive improved lines of technical communications and increased depth of relationships. The goal is to a ssist the Account Managers in increasing customer revenue through superior technical support and service.
  • Travel to customer sights to support issues, and/or, key programs as required.
  • Produce and conduct technical capability presentations in conjunction with the sales team.
  • Provide the manufacturing facility with insight into future customer needs and technology requirements.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Ability to make routine decisions with general direction provided by management team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with customers design groups.
  • Knowledge of entire PCB process manufacturing process including process flows, individual processing steps and tooling.
  • Able to read engineering drawings and perform Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis.
  • Able to maintain technical expertise/competence with the ever-changing technology.
  • Ability to make decisions influencing quality and quantity of PCB designs coming from key customers.
  • Self-motivated and willing to work with minimum supervision.
  • Effective public speaking skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Candidates for this position should have a Bachelor of Science degree or a two year technical degree in field relevant to position.
  • Candidates should have a strong background in the PCB manufacturing industry.
  • Skills should include Gerber View or equivalent software and blueprint interpretation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Customer travel is a job requirement.

  • Able to work in a fast-pace and high-pressure environment.
