Job summary

Rantec Power Systems, Inc. in California seeks a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Subject Matter Expert to serve as the technical authority on bare PCB fabrication risk.

The SME will guide stack-ups, material specs, and supplier processes, ensuring designs are manufacturable and that supplier controls meet aerospace/defense standards. This role reports to Engineering and collaborates with Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and external PCB suppliers to prevent defects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Materials engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 7 years in PCB fabrication, PCB process engineering, CAM/DFM, or supplier quality.
• Hands-on experience with PCB stack-up, lamination, drilling, plating, solder mask, and impedance concepts.

Responsibilities

• Serve as internal SME for bare PCB fabrication technologies, supplier capabilities, fabrication risks, and industry best practices.
• Provide technical guidance on PCB stack-ups, laminate systems, copper weights, dielectric spacing, controlled impedance, via structures, surface finishes, solder mask, plating, cleanliness, high-voltage spacing, high-current design, and thermal performance.
• Establish standards for fabrication drawings, stack-ups, data packages, and supplier-facing requirements to ensure clarity, completeness, manufacturability, and supplier enforceability.
• Develop and maintain PCB DFX guidelines for new product development, redesign, obsolescence redesign, supplier transition, and production release.
• Lead or support the technical portion of PCB supplier qualification, surveillance, and audits with QA, assessing supplier controls across CAM, stack-up management, materials, lamination, drilling, plating, solder mask, surface finish, electrical test, microsection, and final inspection.
• Train internal teams on PCB fabrication risks, defect recognition, manufacturability concerns, supplier expectations, drawing-note best practices, inspection strategy, and acceptance criteria.
