Cognizant is seeking an experienced PCB Design Engineer to join the Paragon Program Hardware Engineering team in the United States. You will lead end-to-end PCB layout, optimize signal and power integrity, and ensure manufacturability for mission-critical industrial electronics.

The role requires 5+ years in PCB layout, advanced Altium/Cadence/Mentor tools, and extensive HDI/rigid-flex expertise. Onsite with strong cross-functional collaboration and NPI support.

Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on PCB layout and design experience in industrial/e embedded ruggedized electronics.
Advanced proficiency in Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, and/or Mentor Xpedition.
Proven track record delivering high-speed, HDI and rigid-flex PCB designs with EMC/PI considerations.
Experience with multi-layer stacks (12+ layer) and controlled impedance layouts.
Familiarity with IPC/IEC standards and DFx methodologies.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end PCB layout activities from constraint definition to NPI support.
Develop PCB designs optimized for signal integrity, power integrity, thermal performance, EMC, manufacturability, and testability.
Ensure safety, creepage, clearance, isolation compliance for industrial products.
Collaborate with Hardware, SI/PI, Mechanical, Compliance, Test and Manufacturing teams.
Support prototypes, design reviews, troubleshooting, and design optimization throughout the lifecycle.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced PCB Design Engineer to join the Paragon Program Hardware Engineering team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled PCB professional with extensive experience in the design and development of complex industrial electronic products. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, manufacturable, and reliable hardware solutions for mission-critical applications.

Key Skills & Technical Requirements

ECAD Design Tools

Proficiency in Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, or Mentor Xpedition, including Constraint Manager, 3D visualization, and DRC verification.

High-Speed Layout & Signal Integrity

Strong understanding of controlled impedance design, differential pair routing, length matching, propagation delay analysis, skew management, and advanced via structures such as back-drilling.

Power Integrity & Thermal Management

Experience with Power Distribution Network (PDN) design, decoupling optimization, current density analysis, thermal vias, and thermal management techniques.

Advanced PCB Technologies

Hands-on expertise with HDI designs, microvias, blind and buried vias, rigid-flex architectures, and complex multilayer stackups (12+ layers).

Design for Manufacturing (DFx)

Knowledge of DFM, DFA, and DFT methodologies, ICT/FCT test strategies, panelization techniques, and production readiness processes.

Documentation & Manufacturing Data

Ability to generate and manage ODB++, IPC-2581, Gerber X2, IPC-356 netlists, BOM documentation, and MCAD integration files such as STEP.

Industry Standards & Compliance

Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-7351, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610) and relevant IEC standards including IEC 61000 (EMC), IEC 61010-1 (Safety), and IEC 60068 (Environmental).

Key Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end PCB layout activities, including constraint definition, stack-up development, component placement, routing, verification, documentation, and NPI support.
Develop robust, high-quality PCB designs optimized for signal integrity, power integrity, thermal performance, EMC compliance, manufacturability, and testability.
Ensure compliance with safety, creepage, clearance, isolation, and environmental requirements for industrial applications.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Hardware Engineering, Signal Integrity/Power Integrity, Mechanical Engineering, Compliance, Test Engineering, and Manufacturing.
Support prototype builds, design reviews, troubleshooting, and design optimization throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on PCB layout and design experience supporting industrial, embedded, or ruggedized electronic products.
Advanced proficiency in Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, and/or Mentor Xpedition.
Proven track record of delivering complex, high-speed, controlled-impedance, power-dense, and isolated PCB designs, including HDI and rigid-flex technologies.
Strong expertise in EMC-conscious layout techniques, power integrity (PI), thermal management, and creepage/clearance requirements.
Experience designing multilayer PCB assemblies ranging from simple designs to complex 12+ layer boards.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
