Job summary

Dayton Children's Hospital is seeking a part-time Patient Care Assistant (PCA) for the Perioperative Services II department. The role supports nursing staff, assists with daily patient activities, and helps ensure a safe, confidential, family-centered care environment.

The PCA will measure vital signs, document intake/output, and assist with activities of daily living, while cross-training to support both clinical and clerical operations. CPR is preferred and training is provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • PCA training or PCA experience required.
  • CPR is preferred at hire, but must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the nurse in completion of patient care activities and report patient information as indicated.
  • Measure and record vital signs, intake and output.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Provide safe transportation and environment for patients and maintain confidentiality.

Demonstrates strong communication skills, accepts delegated tasks and has the knowledge and understanding to ask questions and report patient information as indicated. Appropriately handles patient information understanding confidentiality and privacy. Complies with the safety management program designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and to reduce the risk of injury. Is knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital. The PCA promotes a patient and family experience oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external. The PCA measures and records vital signs, intake and output, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides safe transportation and environment for patients. The PCA is cross trained to support the clinical and clerical sides of the business.

Department Specific Job Details
Hours- 630-3p Part time position, 40 hours per pay period. Schedule is based off pay periods. Week 1: Thursday, Friday. Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Education
  • HSD/GED is required
Experience
  • PCA training or PCA experience or actively enrolled in a health care related education program is required
  • 1-2 years STNA experience in hospital setting is preferred
Certification/Licensure
  • CPR is preferred at hire, but must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date
