Job summary

Dayton Children's is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support the Hematology department on the Main Campus. The role involves assisting nurses with patient care activities, monitoring patients, and ensuring safety and privacy in a fast-paced pediatric setting.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, PCA training or experience, and be prepared to obtain CPR within two weeks. This full-time position offers 36 hours weekly and a dynamic team devoted to high-quality pediatric care.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • PCA training or experience required or actively enrolled in a related program.
  • CPR certification preferred at hire; must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the nurse in patient care activities, considering the patient’s developmental level.
  • Measure and record vital signs, intake and output.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide safe transportation and environment.
  • Cross-trained to support clinical and clerical sides of the business.

Job description

Facility: Dayton Children's - Main Campus Department: Hematology Schedule: Full time Hours: 36 Job Details: Responsible for assisting the nurse in completion of patient care activities, taking into consideration the patient's developmental levels. Demonstrates strong communication skills, accepts delegated tasks and has the knowledge and understanding to ask questions and report patient information as indicated. Appropriately handles patient information understanding confidentiality and privacy. Complies with the safety management program designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and to reduce the risk of injury. Is knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital. The PCA promotes a patient and family experience oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external. The PCA measures and records vital signs, intake and output, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides safe transportation and environment for patients. The PCA is cross trained to support the clinical and clerical sides of the business.
