Position Summary:

This position performs various patient care activities related to caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). It includes clerical and clinical functions under RN supervision.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care in a safe, sensitive, and timely manner according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Supports the patient care process by performing duties such as obtaining EKGs, collecting lab specimens, performing phlebotomy, taking vital signs, and preparing patients for surgery.
  • Maintains accurate documentation including medical records, physician orders, and departmental logs.
  • Stocks and maintains supplies daily or as needed.
  • Follows infection control and sterile techniques in all tasks.
  • Performs clerical duties as required.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement and training activities.
  • Interacts effectively with diverse populations, especially in stressful situations.
  • Performs role-specific duties proficiently and according to departmental standards.
  • Delivers consistent quality service aligned with hospital philosophy.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Combat Medic Specialist (MOS 68W), Nursing Student (2nd year for ADN, 3rd year for BSN)
  • Current BLS certification

Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum one year of relevant patient care experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and sterile techniques
  • Ability to follow directions, prioritize, and organize work
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful or emergency situations

Equivalent education and experience may substitute for specific requirements if they provide similar proficiency.

Department-specific competencies will be developed and maintained locally.
