Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a PBX Operator to manage a multi-position switchboard, relay calls, and perform clerical tasks in a fast-paced hospital environment.

You will operate paging systems, assist with language line requests, monitor codes and alarms, and provide information to visitors and staff. This role requires clear communication, patience, and teamwork to ensure excellent patient service and operational continuity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Answers all incoming calls and relays to proper stations.
  • Monitors paging systems and alarms; reports issues.
  • Directs callers and provides information per hospital policies.
  • Assists with language line requests when needed.
  • Operates AT&T console and headset features.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The PBX Operator operates multi position switchboard to relay incoming and outgoing calls Performs miscellaneous communications and clerical duties Operates radios beeping and paging systems Operates mutual aid radio and monitors emergency codes

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the PBX Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Answers all incoming calls and relays to proper stationsDirect callers in need of language line assistanceMonitor generator fire and medical gas panels for trouble and report to maintenance securityAnswers questions of callers according to hospital policies and regulationsMonitor Metasys system for alarms and alerts Notify proper departmentRoutes call to proper departments personnel and patient roomsPages authorized personnel over intercom systemMakes necessary announcements regarding visiting hours and other notifications announces CodesActs as information center for visitors and outside callers when auxiliary workers are off dutyResponsible for documenting necessary information regarding LCMHS Emergency CodesPages andor calls personnel on call during off hours for other hospital staffMonitors arrivals of incoming helicoptersLogs and notifies repair representatives of phone problemsUnderstands and uses AT&T telephone console and hand sethead set features and is able to communicate the sameThe above statements are only meant to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job The incumbents may be requested to perform job related tasks other than those stated in this description

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
