Position: Payroll Tax Manager - Remote US

The Payroll Tax Manager ensures payroll tax accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves leading 1-2 Payroll Tax Specialists and serving as the primary tax SME within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee tax compliance, regulations, and confidentiality for the payroll tax team.
  2. Ensure all federal, state, and local payroll tax liabilities and filings are accurate and timely.
  3. Manage quarterly tax close and annual W-2/W-2c processes.
  4. Develop and maintain procedures and policies related to payroll tax.
  5. Collaborate with third-party payroll tax system providers.
  6. Establish standard payroll approval processes and drive efficiencies.
  7. Create policies for payroll compliance across multiple states.
  8. Maintain data integrity through queries, analysis, and audits.
  9. Handle special requests from executives and HR, including complex bonus and stock distributions.
  10. Ensure legal compliance and prepare necessary reports.
  11. Partner with Legal on employee compliance issues.
  12. Review and improve payroll, benefits, and tax procedures.
  13. Generate management reports on payroll metrics.
  14. Resolve payroll discrepancies promptly.
  15. Provide customer service for payroll issues.
  16. Coach and develop payroll team members.
  17. Ensure compliance with SOX and internal controls.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus 6+ years of payroll tax experience or 10+ years in payroll tax.
  2. Experience with payroll taxes in 30+ states.
  3. 5+ years in payroll tax leadership.
  4. 5+ years’ experience with Workday software.
  5. Experience with third-party compliance tools like SmartCompliance (preferred).
  6. Certifications such as FPC or CPP (preferred).
Additional Details:
  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $103,000
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM, within Eastern or Central Time zones.
