Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in accounting is required.
  • 2-5 years of experience in payroll tax, payroll processing, accounting, or a related function.
  • Experience with payroll systems.
  • Experience with tax filing platforms.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll taxation.
  • Experience responding to payroll tax notices.
  • Experience supporting tax audits.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with reconciliations and data analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to research tax regulations and resolve complex discrepancies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting and general ledger reconciliation preferred.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday between 7 AM and 5 PM.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Successful completion of a background and drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Process and review federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and payments
  • Ensure payroll tax deposits and filings are accurate and timely
  • Reconcile payroll tax liabilities, payments, and general ledger accounts
  • Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, notices, and agency inquiries
  • Maintain employee and employer tax records, including tax jurisdictions and withholding requirements
  • Monitor changes in payroll tax laws and assess their impact on payroll operations
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and related reporting
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 and other wage/tax reporting
  • Coordinate with payroll providers and tax agencies to resolve filing, payment, and registration issues
  • Support payroll tax audits and provide requested documentation and reports
  • Review payroll calculations and tax withholding for accuracy
  • Maintain documentation of tax processes, controls, reconciliations, and compliance activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll tax processes, controls, and automation
  • Protect confidential employee, payroll, and tax information
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
