Job summary

Abbott Park, IL-based Payroll Tax Associate II role within the CHR Corporate Human Resources division. Responsible for accurate processing, reconciliation, and tax reporting after payroll is executed, focusing on federal, state, and local taxes, notices, and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 1+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a large corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of U.S. payroll laws and regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct State Unemployment Insurance rate reviews, ensuring accuracy, timely updates, and proper application across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Review, research, and resolve payroll tax notices, including correspondence with federal, state, and local tax authorities to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
  • Manage employee-facing payroll tax inquiries, providing timely, accurate, and professional responses.
  • Process and resolve employee ticket requests for W-2C, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve payroll tax fallouts, including reconciliation discrepancies and system errors.
  • Support and execute quarter-end payroll and year-end tax activities, including reconciliations, filings, and variance analysis.

The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location within the CHR Corporate Human Resources division. The Payroll Tax Associate II is responsible for ensuring accurate processing, reconciliation, and compliance of payroll taxes after payroll has been executed. This role focuses on federal, state, and local payroll tax filing, resolving tax notices, and coordinating with internal teams, state agencies, and third-party tax vendors to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting. The position requires strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and consistency in a fast-paced, onsite environment, supporting payroll tax testing, project work, and ongoing issue resolution through internal ticketing systems and external communications.

What You’ll Work On

Accountability, Scope, and Impact
  • The Payroll Associate will report to a Payroll Supervisor.
  • Respond to requests, ensuring that it is accurate and timely.

Required Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

The base pay for this position is $28.25 – $56.55 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
