Job summary

Fairfax County seeks a Human Resource Generalist I to support payroll operations, recruitment, certification management, HR programs and customer service. This role works under direct supervision and requires strong analytical skills, independent judgment, and broad HR knowledge.

Key duties include payroll supervision, full-cycle recruitment, certification tracking, HR analytics using FOCUS, PEAQ and Smartsheet, and assistance with ADA and FMLA processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human resource management, public administration, or a related field.
• Experience with payroll processing and personnel actions is preferred.
• Experience in recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, and HR data reporting is beneficial.
• Proficiency with NEOGOV, FOCUS, PEAQ, JDMS or other HR systems is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise payroll staff and ensure bi-weekly payroll accuracy.
• Manage full-cycle recruitment from requisition to candidate selection.
• Oversee certification requirements, tracking and documentation.
• Prepare HR analytics and reports using FOCUS, PEAQ and Smartsheet.
• Assist with ADA and FMLA processes, policy support, and staff notifications.
• Provide timely HR support across channels and collaborate with other units.
