Job summary

KIPP NYC is seeking a Senior Director of Payroll to lead a complex, multi-entity payroll operation. This in-person role will guide systems, controls, and processes to ensure accurate, timely and compliant payroll for staff across NYC campuses and programs.

The Senior Director will oversee a team and collaborate with People Operations, Accounting, FP&A, and external vendors, while maintaining strong internal controls and continuous improvement of payroll practices.

Qualifications

• Significant progressive payroll experience leading a complex payroll function for a large employee population.
• Deep hands-on knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing and internal controls.
• Experience managing payroll for multiple legal entities and employees with multiple pay arrangements.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxation, wage-and-hour requirements, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead payroll leadership and operations across multiple entities to support schools, programs, and priorities.
• Establish and continuously improve payroll processes, calendars, controls, and service standards.
• Partner with People Operations, Accounting, and FP&A to align payroll with organizational needs.
• Develop KPIs related to payroll accuracy, timeliness, and employee service.
• Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team to ensure high performance.
