Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Payroll Coordinator for SEVTC to manage semi-monthly payroll processing, maintain records, and ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Responsibilities include reconciling payroll data, auditing reports, and handling deductions and garnishments.

The role requires strong knowledge of GAAP/government payroll practices and proficiency with UKG Kronos and Cardinal payroll systems, along with excellent organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting practices.
• Knowledge of state and federal labor and tax laws.
• Knowledge of payroll deductions and garnishment processes.
• Experience performing payroll and/or accounting functions.
• Experience reconciling complex accounting and payroll data.
• Strong computer skills with payroll/timekeeping systems.
• Experience using UKG/Kronos Timekeeping and Cardinal Payroll.
• Strong organizational skills to meet payroll deadlines.
• Maintain accuracy and confidentiality with payroll information.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform payroll for SEVTC employees, including semi-monthly processing.
• Maintain employee payroll records, deductions, tax withholdings, garnishments, and related payments.
• Review time records and process leaves, promotions, and adjustments.
• Audit payroll reports before certification.
• Prepare and review payroll-related reports and tax filings (W-2, VEC).
• Ensure payroll taxes are accurate and timely.
• Respond to employee payroll questions and collaborate with HR.
• Operate UKG WFM/Kronos systems and train new staff.
