Job summary

Cobalt Service Partners is seeking a Payroll Specialist to own accurate, on-time payroll for a group of operating businesses. Each business has its own employees, pay schedules and quirks, and you’ll be the person they count on to get it right every cycle.

As we’re still shaping our processes, you’ll document steps, tighten controls, and help design scalable payroll workflows as we grow—making payroll a core part of how we operate across our partner companies.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on payroll processing across multiple EINs or companies.
• Knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax rules and garnishments.
• Experience with at least one major payroll platform (ADP/Paychex/Paylocity/Gusto/UKG).
• Strong Excel skills including lookups and pivot tables.
• High standards for accuracy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Run end-to-end payroll for multiple businesses on weekly, biweekly and semimonthly schedules.
• Collect and verify hours, hires, terminations, pay changes, bonuses and commissions.
• Calculate and process deductions, PTO accruals and benefit withholdings.
• Review payroll registers and resolve discrepancies before funds are released.
• Ensure taxes are withheld, filed and paid on time (941, W-2, W-3).
• Answer questions from employees and managers about pay and forms.
• Reconcile payroll to GL and prepare journal entries or reports for accounting.
• Support audits, workers' comp reviews, and year-end close.
