Job summary

Maine School Administrative District No 75 is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the District Office in Topsham, Maine. The role focuses on accurately processing bi-weekly payroll and maintaining records, including stipend payments and per diem requests.

The position is nonexempt, 40 hours per week, full year, with a pay rate of $29.92 to $32.63 per hour (DOE). Reports to the Business Manager; requires payroll systems experience and meticulous handling of confidential employee data.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or on-going course work towards a degree preferred with at least 3 - 5 years of related payroll experience
• Valid State of Maine Department of Education background check (CHRC) authorization required at the time application
• Solid knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Google Workspace)
• Good public relations and organizational skills
• Prior experience with computerized payroll systems required
• Prior experience with payroll software preferred; ability to function in an inflexible schedule; ability to work independently
• Experience with School ERP Pro is preferred
• Knowledge and experience processing Maine PFML claims

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly payroll, including stipend payments and per diem requests
• Maintain accurate payroll records and check registers in business office files and employee personnel records
• Maintain electronic employee database and payroll files
• Maintain employee leave balances and reconcile electronic postings to actual allowances; maintain annual leave records
• Process PFML program filings and related reports
• Prepare payroll-related general ledger journal entries for accountant
• Serve as back up to basic accounting functions when needed
