Job summary

The City of Fort Worth Fire Department, Fire Administration Division, seeks a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for over 1,000 Civil Service and civilian employees. You will research and resolve complex payroll discrepancies, ensure timely processing, and maintain compliance with labor agreements.

Ideal candidates are organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in business, finance, accounting or related field.
• Two years of experience in payroll operations.
• Advanced knowledge of ERP payroll systems.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data reconciliation.
• Knowledge of Civil Service payroll operations and labor agreements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and enter daily overtime transactions and other payroll entries.
• Review and validate time entries across multiple databases.
• Research complex payroll discrepancies and coordinate resolutions.
• Analyze Time and Labor and Absence Management reports for exceptions.
• Validate payroll errors and ensure compliance with policies and labor agreements.
• Investigate payroll errors and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Train Fire Department timekeepers on payroll procedures and system processes.
• Collaborate with Fire Department personnel and HR to resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate payroll documentation and follow up on issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
