Job summary

Contra Costa Electric, Inc. is seeking a Payroll Clerk in Martinez, CA to process employee payroll accurately and on time, maintain payroll records, and ensure compliance with federal and California labor laws.

You will assist employees with payroll inquiries and support audits and reporting. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of payroll, accounting, or bookkeeping experience, strong data entry and Excel skills, and knowledge of union contracts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
• 1–3 years of payroll, accounting, or bookkeeping experience.
• Knowledge of union contracts is a plus.
• Strong data entry, math, and Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly.
• Review and verify timecards and attendance records.
• Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and garnishments.
• Enter payroll data into payroll systems.
• Maintain payroll files and confidential records.
• Prepare payroll reports and reconcile discrepancies.
• Assist with tax reporting and payroll compliance.
• Respond to employee pay questions and benefits inquiries.
• Support audits and payroll documentation; assist with certified payroll reporting.
