Responsibilities

  • Auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards.
  • Auditing new hires into the payroll system.
  • Compiles payroll data such as hours worked; bonuses, and commissions.
  • Compiles funds to be withheld for taxes; employee contributions to insurance and retirement.
  • Updates master payroll records by verifying and recording changes affecting net wages such as federal and state tax exemptions, insurance coverage, etc.
  • Updates data concerning compensation increases, promotions, and/or transfer of employees between departments.
  • Computes wages and deductions, reviews for accuracy, and posts to payroll records.
  • Prepares data for payroll files to be reviewed before processing.
  • Keeps records of leave pay and nontaxable wages.
  • Enters all employee benefit deductions, garnishments, AR payments and any other deductions as directed/approved by the employee in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Maintains professional appearance and neat work area.
  • Reconciling Payroll Liability Accounts.

SUMMARY

The payroll specialist is responsible for collecting timekeeping information, processing Company payrolls accurately, verifying and applying applicable deductions to employee pay, and issuing pay and pay-related information to employees.

PAY

  • $20 - $26 per hour DOE

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1 to 3 months related experience and/or training; or
  • Preferred- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions of payroll program, and procedure documents
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as wage and hours laws for local, state and federal agencies
  • Ability to speak and listen effectively employees of organization. Clear and concise communication is vital in this position

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
