  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Knowledge of payroll laws and regulations is essential.

Description

The Payroll Specialist conducts the daily operations of processing payroll functions for employees, monitoring compliance with payroll laws and policies, and auditing payroll data and documents as requested. This position performs duties related to payroll including updating employee records, recording employment status and tax changes, assisting with payroll deductions and assessments, and processing payroll-related tasks.


Compensation and Benefits


  • $29/hour starting wage

  • Full-time, Non-exempt

  • Mon-days - Fri-days, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM


Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Perform daily payroll data management and processing.

  • Ensure compliance with all labor and policy requirements for timely and accurate payment of hours worked.

  • Handle various payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve issues as needed.

  • Audit payroll and tax-related documents to ensure validity and compliance.

  • Input and audit supplemental payments for employees, including but not limited to mileage and training reimbursements.

  • Maintain information and documentation regarding payroll adjustments, including but not limited to employee status changes, tax changes, and deduction adjustments.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all payroll data, company, and employee information.

  • Process employee wage garnishments and employment verifications, ensuring compliance with necessary requirements and deadlines.

  • Audit and reconcile bills from third-party vendors.

  • Process paid time off (PTO) requests and educate employees on PTO policies and procedures.

  • Handle administration of the company's 401(k) plan.

  • Process other benefits-related assignments as necessary.

  • Communicate via phone, email and/or text message with employees and external contacts, exuding excellent service skills, knowledge, and professionalism.

  • Utilize data entry systems to respond to and document phone calls, emails, and text messages with strong attention to detail.

  • Use software to create documents, spreadsheets, and communications that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in payroll, accounting, or related field preferred.

  • One year or more of experience working with payroll processing, accounting, or numerical data analysis and reporting.

  • Knowledge of Community Support Agency operations a plus.

  • Knowledge of major medical and supplemental benefits preferred.

  • Knowledge of 401(k) plans preferred.


Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Limited periods of standing, walking, reaching, stretching may be required.

  • Frequent communication verbally and electronically.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.


Other Requirements:


  • Must pass and maintain background clearance as defined by Oregon State Background Regulations.
