Job summary

Doeren Mayhew, a premier tax and advisory firm, seeks a part-time Payroll Packager for our Grand Rapids, MI office. You will process client payrolls, manage reports, set up direct deposits, and assist the payroll team.

The role requires attention to detail, strong math, and excellent client communication. Candidates should have 2–4 years of payroll experience (asure software a plus) and be able to work 8:00am-5:00pm or 7:30am-4:30pm, Mon-Wed, with potential extra days in December and January.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2–4 years of payroll processing experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Asure software or ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent phone service skills and client troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong data entry, math accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Professional writing and clear communication abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines with client confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Process client payrolls weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly per time entry data.
  • Calculate gross pay, withholdings, deductions, and net pay accurately.
  • Create and distribute payroll reports tailored to each client.
  • Set up direct deposit and related withholdings/deductions.
  • Assist payroll processor with packing payroll packages.
  • Ensure timely processing of new hire paperwork.
  • Validate data and process bonuses, commissions, relocations, stock options, and year-end adjustments.
  • Prepare GL reports and communicate payroll data to clients.
  • Learn and train clients on Asure software.

Doeren Mayhew is seeking a Payroll Packager to support the Payroll department in our Grand Rapids, MI office. This a part-time position, in office Monday-Wednesday 8:00am-5:00pm or 7:30am-4:30pm, with an hour lunch break. Must have ability to work up to 5 days per week, excluding holidays, during December and January.

Responsibilities
  • Process weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly client payrolls in accordance with our clients’ time entry data and regulatory requirements. Maintain client lists, schedules, and calendars for routine payroll processing, year-end adjustments, and holiday schedules.
  • Administer paychecks by importing hours from time and production records, determine earnings by calculating gross pay, required withholdings, deductions, and net pay using established procedures developed in coordination with company policies, regulatory, and payroll system provider requirements.
  • Create and distribute payroll reports to various clients electronically. Create customized reports unique to each client’s needs.
  • Set up direct deposit, withholdings, and/or deductions.
  • Assist payroll processor with packing payroll packages.
  • Ensure the appropriate new hire paperwork is processed and verified in a timely manner to meet the client processing schedule.
  • Validate new hire data integrity and process payroll entries for bonuses, commissions, relocations, stock options, and year-end adjustments as required.
  • Prepare general ledger reports and entries to be submitted to clients and communicate payroll data as required.
  • Learn and become an advanced user of the Asure software. Train clients in the proper use of the software.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Two to four years of payroll processing experience, preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of Asure software or technical ability to become proficient quickly
  • Ability to provide excellent service over the phone by troubleshooting user issues and recommending solutions to improve the client’s situation. Ability to handle a wide variety of calls, regular interruptions, and deadlines with confidence and ease.
  • Strong data entry, attention to detail, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Strong math skills and accuracy with numbers and calculations.
  • Competency in professional writing and communication.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with clients and coworkers to promote a positive quality service image.
  • Ability to operate various types of technology and software applications. Competent user of MS Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
