Job summary

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of progressively responsible clerical and office experience in the preparation and maintenance of detailed and complex payroll and personnel records and reports, including at least four (4) years of responsible supervisory experience.
• Substitution: Completion of thirty (30) semester/forty-five (45) quarter units of coursework with a focus in business administration, accounting, mathematics, human resources, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of non-supervisory experience.
• Possession of a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certificate may substitute for one (1) year of non-supervisory experience.
• Applicants must meet minimum qualifications by the final filing date.
• One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours.

Responsibilities

• Plans, assigns and reviews the duties of subordinate employees engaged in payroll and personnel records.
• Oversees the operation of the certification division; coordinates with payroll audit division.
• Interprets labor contracts, codes and rules; provides explanations to management and employees.
• Participates in conferences and meetings to improve payroll operations and data processing applications.
• Confers with Controller's Office and retirement systems regarding payroll matters.
