Job summary

AMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, seeks a Director of Payroll to lead payroll operations for its Los Angeles and New York campuses and remote employees nationwide. This Los Angeles-based, in-person role supervises Payroll Administrators and personally processes full-cycle, biweekly payroll.

The Director reports to the CFO and SVPHR, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, and partnering on wage-and-hour matters, benefits,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 3+ years in supervisory/leadership roles.
• Experience in multi-state payroll, including CA and NY, with wage-and-hour and tax knowledge.
• Experience supervising payroll staff and ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and service.
• CPP designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead payroll operations for AMDA’s Los Angeles and New York campuses and remote employees.
• Directly supervise the Payroll Administrator(s) and ensure accurate, timely payroll processing.
• Personally process full-cycle, biweekly payroll for staff and student employees.
• Audit and approve payrolls across locations before final submission.
• Maintain payroll procedures, controls, documentation, and service standards.
• Respond to payroll questions from employees and leadership promptly.
