Job summary

Harmer is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and continuously improve a complex, multi-state payroll function. You will oversee a sizable hourly and field-based workforce across multiple states, leveraging advanced ADP Workforce Now expertise.

You will develop payroll staff, troubleshoot advanced ADP issues, and ensure accurate, compliant payroll processing with strong analytics and Excel proficiency.

Job description

We are recruiting for our client seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and continuously improve a complex, multi-state payroll function.

• Leadership-focused position
• Oversee a sizable hourly and field-based workforce operating across multiple states and legal entities.
• Bring strong technical payroll expertise combined with demonstrated people leadership and advanced hands-on knowledge of ADP Workforce Now.

Required Qualifications

• Significant experience managing a complex, multi-state payroll function.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing payroll employees, including delegation, coaching, accountability, and performance management.
• Experience supporting a sizable hourly, field-based, or similarly complex workforce.
• Advanced ADP Workforce Now experience, including payroll and timekeeping functionality.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex ADP Workforce Now issues and improve system workflows and processes.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and taxation.
• Experience with payroll accounting, general ledger reconciliations, and payroll interfaces with accounting or ERP systems.
• Experience establishing and maintaining effective payroll controls and procedures.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with complex field-pay practices such as per diem, travel time, report time, and job-based labor.
• Experience working within a job-costed payroll environment.
• Experience implementing, upgrading, configuring, or optimizing payroll and timekeeping systems.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
• Certified payroll reporting experience.
• Experience supporting payroll-related audits and compliance reporting.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or a related discipline preferred; significant relevant payroll leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
