About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for a fast-paced logistics organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while staying ahead of the day-to-day operational issues that can impact payroll deadlines.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, persistent, and comfortable working in an environment where follow-up is critical. Payroll does not always move cleanly from start to finish, so this person must be willing to chase down missing approvals, resolve timecard discrepancies, communicate with managers, and keep the process moving until payroll is completed accurately and on time.
Candidates should have strong payroll experience using ADP Workforce Now and ideally come from logistics, transportation, distribution, warehousing, manufacturing, or another operationally intensive environment with hourly employees and weekly payroll demands.
What You'll Do
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a multi-department workforce.
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule using ADP Workforce Now.
- Review employee timecards, hours, deductions, adjustments, and payroll changes for accuracy.
- Follow up directly with managers and supervisors regarding missing or unapproved timecards.
- Proactively identify payroll issues and drive them through resolution before processing deadlines.
- Monitor payroll workflows to ensure required approvals are completed on time.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, missed punches, pay adjustments, and other employee pay issues.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee information within ADP Workforce Now.
- Coordinate with HR, operations, management, and other internal departments regarding payroll changes and questions.
- Ensure new hires, terminations, pay changes, deductions, garnishments, and other payroll updates are entered accurately.
- Review payroll reports prior to submission and investigate inconsistencies.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and payroll reconciliations.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Respond to employee payroll questions in a professional and timely manner.
- Track recurring payroll problems and help improve processes to reduce future errors and delays.
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information.
- Be available to remain beyond normal business hours when necessary to ensure payroll is completed successfully.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably with responsibility for managing or leading the payroll process.
- Strong hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now is required.
- Experience processing payroll in a logistics, transportation, warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, or similarly operational environment strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting hourly and salaried employee populations.
- Strong understanding of timekeeping, payroll deductions, garnishments, taxes, and payroll adjustments.
- Proven ability to manage payroll deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfortable following up repeatedly with managers and employees when information or approvals are outstanding.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies before payroll is finalized.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain composed and solution-oriented when operational issues arise.
- High level of discretion when handling confidential employee and compensation information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard business software.
What Makes Someone Successful Here
This role requires more than simply processing payroll data. The strongest candidate will be someone who takes ownership of the entire payroll cycle and does not wait for missing information to arrive on its own.
Success in this position requires someone who is:
- Persistent and comfortable holding managers accountable for payroll deadlines.
- Proactive about identifying missing information and resolving issues early.
- Driven to ensure employees are paid correctly and on time.
- Comfortable navigating frequent operational interruptions and last-minute changes.
- Willing to pick up the phone, send follow-ups, and continue escalating when approvals are outstanding.
- Highly organized and able to keep multiple payroll issues moving simultaneously.
- Flexible when payroll processing occasionally extends beyond normal business hours.
Schedule
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Burlington, New Jersey.
The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Candidates should have some flexibility around payroll deadlines, as occasional late days may be necessary when outstanding approvals, corrections, or other operational issues delay payroll processing.
