The Human Resources Payroll Technician 3 role provides leadership over payroll staff and supports the Department of Public Safety with a wide range of payroll duties to include analyzing, calculating, auditing and certifying timesheets and processing personnel actions on time and without error. This includes assuring all payroll and leave transactions are in accordance with applicable Personnel Rules, Bargaining Unit provisions, State Statutes, and Standard Operating Procedures for the State of Alaska.

We’re hiring for this position in the DPS HQ building in Anchorage, at 5700 East Tudor Road! The DPS HR-Payroll Section is a friendly, welcoming environment that’s team oriented, and productive.
Payroll requires attention to detail and a key part of the workday involves data entry, verifying information, and reconciling figures. The work environment is digitally focused and includes reoccurring tasks leading up to paydays every two weeks.
A limited flexible hybrid telework schedule is available upon the successful completion of probation.

One year of journey technical level human resource experience. This is equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
One year of technical level dispatching experience as an Alaska Marine Highway System Dispatcher with the State of Alaska.
OR
Two years of postsecondary education (64 semester hours or 96 quarter hours equal 2 years) from an accredited college or university in any field.
OR
Two years in any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) from an accredited college or university and human resources experience at the journey technical level. This experience is equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Two years in any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) from an accredited college or university and technical level dispatching experience. This experience is equivalent to an Alaska Marine Highway System Dispatcher with the State of Alaska.
"Human resource" work includes experience in recruitment and selection, classification, employee training, employer provided benefits programs, employment law compliance, personnel, payroll, or employee or labor relations. Supervision of subordinates does not in itself constitute human resource work.
