Comal ISD is seeking a Payroll Specialist to manage and oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. You will collaborate with the Payroll Coordinator, HR, and finance to implement procedures and maintain secure records.

Strong knowledge of payroll laws and confidentiality is required. The role emphasizes maintaining auditable records, staying current with regulations, and handling deductions, benefits, and timekeeping systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's in business preferred.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and TRS/ FLSA.
• Experience with payroll processing and confidential data handling.

Responsibilities

• Direct and control payroll preparation and production, including regular, special, and supplemental payrolls.
• Develop and implement payroll procedures for timely processing and benefits deductions.
• Ensure accuracy of payroll data input and calculations.
• Prepare payroll deduction checks for taxes, retirement, insurance, and dues.
• Review changes to W-4s, direct deposits and deductions.
• Coordinate electronic timekeeping system with Payroll Coordinator.
• Evaluate internal controls of the payroll system and safeguard assets.
• Collaborate with HR and business services on hiring, leave, terminations.
• Maintain auditable records and assist auditors.
• Stay updated on local/state/federal laws and board policy changes.
