Job summary

Under direction, is responsible for performing payroll and/or benefit functions; performs related duties as required. A tested eligible list is not active for this classification at this time, therefore, in accordance with Civil Service Rule X(E), this position will be filled on a PROVISIONAL basis.

At such time an examination is given for this classification, the preferred candidate serving in the class provisionally will be required to take the examination.

Qualifications

• Completion of the twelfth grade and four years of general office experience.
• GED accepted in lieu of high school diploma; college credit may substitute for up to two years.

Responsibilities

• Process personnel/payroll transactions and adjustments in the computerized payroll system.
• Compile reports and statements related to payroll and benefits.
• Provide employees with payroll and benefits information and respond to inquiries.
• Identify issues and suggest improvements to payroll/personnel procedures.
• Prepare payroll audits, validate records, and process deductions.
