Payroll & Benefits Associate – Temp-to-Perm

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday

Type: Temporary-to-Permanent

Position Overview

A well-established organization in the Hingham, MA area is seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join its Human Resources team. This is a temp-to-permanent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership of payroll while also supporting employee benefits and HR operations.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for bi-weekly payroll processing, benefits administration, payroll and HRIS data integrity, leave-related payroll activities, and employee support. This position works closely with HR, Finance, managers, employees, benefit providers, and payroll vendors.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and experienced with ADP Workforce Now.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and process bi-weekly payroll using ADP Workforce Now
  • Audit and reconcile payroll, timekeeping records, deductions, accruals, and adjustments
  • Process new hires, terminations, salary changes, status changes, direct deposits, garnishments, tax changes, retroactive payments, and corrections
  • Serve as a primary resource for employee and manager payroll questions
  • Administer employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary benefits, EAP, and 403(b) retirement plans
  • Process benefit enrollments, terminations, qualifying life events, and employee changes
  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and payroll deductions
  • Work with benefit brokers, carriers, retirement providers, and payroll vendors to resolve issues
  • Coordinate payroll and benefits activities related to FMLA, Massachusetts PFML, medical, military, and personal leaves
  • Track benefit continuation and employee premium payments during leaves
  • Administer sign-on bonuses, referral bonuses, retention incentives, and other employee incentive programs
  • Maintain accurate employee information within ADP Workforce Now
  • Perform HRIS audits, reporting, and data reconciliation
  • Support onboarding, employee changes, compliance tracking, audits, and HR projects
  • Partner closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of payroll administration experience
  • Demonstrated experience independently processing and taking ownership of payroll
  • Hands-on benefits administration experience
  • Knowledge of payroll taxes, deductions, wage and hour requirements, and leave-related payroll practices
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and reporting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred

Preferred Experience

  • ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with health and welfare benefits and retirement plans
  • Experience reconciling benefit invoices and payroll deductions
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts payroll and leave requirements
  • Experience supporting a multi-site organization
  • Background in nonprofit, healthcare, human services, or another service-oriented environment
  • Bachelor's degree and/or SHRM, PHR, CPP, or related certification a plus

This position is being hired on a temporary-to-permanent basis, with the expectation that the successful candidate will have the opportunity to transition to a regular full-time employee following a successful temporary period.
