Job summary

Advanced Medical Imaging Consultants (AMIC) in Fort Collins, CO seeks a Payroll & Benefits Accountant to join the Accounting team. You will handle multi-state payroll processing, benefits and retirement plan administration, and related accounting tasks.

Collaboration with the Controller and payroll system improvements are a focal point. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive payroll/benefits experience, expertise with self-funded health plans, and strong Excel and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited four-year college.
• 5+ years of progressive payroll, benefits, and accounting experience.
• Demonstrated multi-state payroll experience including tax compliance and registrations.
• Hands-on experience with self-funded health insurance plan accounting and administration.
• Experience administering or supporting qualified retirement plans.
• Experience implementing payroll systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly and complex monthly payroll for staff and radiologists across multiple states.
• Complete payroll tax registrations, unemployment accounts, and state-specific enrollments.
• Research payroll regulations and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
• Prepare Forms 941, support W-2 reporting, and resolve payroll tax notices.
• Manage self-funded health insurance and retirement plan administration and funding.
• Prepare compensation and benefit schedules, budgets, forecasts, and variance explanations.
• Post journal entries and accruals; reconcile payroll and related accounts.
• Assist with payroll implementations, upgrades, and testing.
• Support audits for retirement plans and workers’ compensation.

About the Role

As part of the Accounting team, the Payroll & Benefits Accountant will work alongside an existing Payroll & Benefits Accountant to perform and assist with payroll processing, employee benefit and retirement plan administration, related accounting, compliance, and reporting.
The ideal candidate has hands-on multi-state payroll experience and experience with the accounting and administration of a self-funded health insurance plan. Retirement plan administration and payroll implementation experience are also important to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and assist with the bi-weekly and complex monthly payroll for staff and radiologists across multiple states
• Complete or assist with payroll tax registrations, unemployment accounts, state-specific employment enrollments, and business registrations in new states
• Research federal, state, and local payroll requirements and assist with ongoing compliance with applicable regulations
• Review quarterly and annual federal and state payroll tax returns, reconcile Forms 941, support W-2 reporting, and resolve payroll tax notices or discrepancies
• Perform and assist with the accounting and administration of the self-funded health insurance plan and retirement plan, including eligibility, contribution calculations, funding, and annual limits
• Prepare and maintain compensation and benefit schedules, budgets, forecasts, total compensation reports, and variance explanations
• Prepare and post related journal entries and accruals with close attention to detail
• Reconcile payroll, benefit, retirement, bank, and other assigned balance sheet accounts
• Participate in or assist with payroll implementations, upgrades, and testing
• Support retirement plan, workers’ compensation, and other audits
• Provide responsive, professional service to employees, radiologists, management, vendors, and internal departments
• Maintain confidentiality at all times

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited 4-year college
• 5+ years of progressive payroll, benefits, and accounting experience
• Demonstrated multi-state payroll experience, including payroll tax compliance and state-specific employer requirements as well as identifying and completing payroll tax registrations
• Hands-on experience with self-funded health insurance plan accounting and administration
• Experience administering or supporting qualified retirement plans
• Experience participating in a payroll system implementation a plus
• Advanced Excel skills and strong technical aptitude and comfort with payroll, benefit, and accounting data systems
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to manage detailed work, multiple priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with a high level of professionalism, customer service, and confidentiality
• Certified Payroll Professional designation and physician practice experience are a plus
• Salary range: $75,000 -$100,000

Our Process
