Job summary

Patreon in San Francisco is seeking an Engineering Leader to guide the Payments team. You will partner with product, operations, design, and data to craft a vision and roadmap for a high-quality payments product used by creators and fans.

You will oversee a team of software engineers, set technical direction, drive major infrastructure initiatives, and determine how to invest across infrastructure, experience, and tooling.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• 7+ years of experience managing engineering managers and teams.
• Direct experience with payments, billing, or financial infrastructure at scale.
• Comfort owning reliability work and new product bets in the same portfolio.
• Experience navigating vendor relationships and build-vs-buy decisions for critical infrastructure.
• Proven track record shipping end-to-end product work in complex domains.
• Executive-level collaboration with VP/C-level stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Support, and GTM.
• Strong cross-functional partnership with Product, Design, Finance, and Support.
• Deep commitment to high craft user experiences for creators and fans.
• Experience with experimentation-driven approaches and data-informed roadmaps.
• Ability to build trusting relationships across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and roadmap priorities with Product, Design, and PMM leads.
• Drive execution on major infrastructure initiatives (legacy billing deprecation, payments reliability, local payment methods expansion).
• Set the org structure and operating model for Payments — staffing plan and investments across infrastructure, experience, and tooling.
• Champion operational excellence; improve reliability and efficiency of payments infrastructure and guardrail metrics.
• Collaborate with other teams for cohesive payments experiences across surfaces.
• Make build-vs-buy and vendor partnership decisions for payment processing and payout infrastructure.
• Represent Payments in cross-functional planning with Finance, Risk, Support, and GTM.
