Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Payments Data Platform Lead Software Engineer in Austin, TX to drive secure, scalable data platform solutions within the Commercial and Investment Banking Data Analytics Payment team.

You will own the full software development lifecycle, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality production code and resilient systems.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• 3+ years of professional experience in backend or full-stack software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring framework, and OpenSource technologies and experience with Python, Go, or Node.js.
• Hands-on experience designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD tooling.
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
• Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems.
• Practical cloud native experience.

Responsibilities

• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
• Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
• Designs, develops, and maintains RESTful APIs and microservices that support business-critical workflows and integrations
• Owns full software development lifecycle — from requirements and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
• Builds and maintains CI/CD pipelines, automated testing suites, and deployment automation to ensure rapid, reliable releases
• Collaborates with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and deliver scalable solutions
• Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
• Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies

• Experience with API gateway patterns, GraphQL, messaging platforms (Kafka, SQS), or gRPC
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), observability practices, and cloud service provisioning
