Job description

As an asphalt roller operator, your duties are to operate paving equipment, such as motorized rollers, to create a paved road or another surface for a construction or repair project. You work with many different pieces of machinery that are designed to apply different surface materials.

Responsibilities

• Compacts asphalt material to required density and finish using rollers of various sizes
• Performs hand tamping on edges and areas where the roller cannot reach
• Must be able to see and correct defects in surfaces being rolled, such as depressions, swales, seams, edges, etc.
• Responsible for having a thorough understanding of various aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, mix designs, job specifications, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving
• Must perform general laborer duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Able to lift 50 pounds. Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area.
• Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
• Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
• Required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
• A sound understanding of pertinent safety guidelines.
• Capacity to provide and follow direction.
• Sharp decision-making skills, particularly when under pressure.
• Safe operation of hand tools.
• Ability to work extended hours, as required including night work and Saturdays when required.
• Travel to jobsites within 70 miles of main office in Honesdale, PA.
• Pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
