Job summary

Sunrock is seeking a Paving Foreman to supervise a crew in paving projects, coordinating daily activities and ensuring safety and quality. The role includes planning workload, supervising subcontractors when required, and maintaining adherence to company policies on a day-to-day basis.

The position emphasizes strong leadership, safety compliance, and effective communication with the supervisor and crew. Overnight travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3–5 years of related experience required.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a paving crew and coordinate with subcontractors as needed.
  • Plan and schedule work, review and approve tasks.
  • Enforce safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA/MSHA guidelines.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Submit time sheets by deadline and manage project paperwork.
  • Provide leadership by example and mentor crew members.

General Summary

The Paving Foreman supervises and works alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors when needed to assist in the installation and construction paving projects The incumbent will supervise work through the planning and scheduling of work and the review and approval of tasks The individual will practice absolute confidentiality Good judgment and common sense are required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned Normal work hours are the day or night shift eight 8 to fourteen 14 hours Monday through Friday There may be weekend work depending on the contract Minimal overnight travel up to 10 as required This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed It is not intended to be an all inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complies with all safety policies procedures and established safe practices and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same
  • Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor andor the Manager
  • Safety & HealthTrains develops and monitors the safety practices including PPE of own employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings one on one development reminders and disciplinary action if necessary
  • Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedure Manual SSPM including but not limited to safety training emergency procedures accident reporting and investigation and employee observations
  • Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures OSHA MSHA and NCDOT guidelines
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock MSHA 30 CFR 5620003 and OSHA 29 CFR 191022 and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same
  • Reads and follows plans material lists and guidelines and applies necessary timelines
  • Fulfills all regular and advanced installationconstruction duties including project layout and completes required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Organizes supervises leads and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe
  • Submits crewmembers timesheets to payroll by required deadline
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge skill
  • Enforces all client required safety policies and procedures
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and safety requirements including crewmember discipline and documentation
  • Attends meetings as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos

  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers clients and employees
  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree GED preferred Three 3 to five 5 years of related experience required Other combinations of education and experience may be considered

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • OSHA 10 hour preferred
  • Storm water Supervisor Level II Certification Preferred
  • Lane Closure Certification Preferred
  • Trenching safety and confined space certification preferred
  • Current North Carolina Drivers License
